The Middletown native and three-time state treasurer received the medals as a "special bonus" after completing his latest army reserve officer's phy.sical examination in Hartford. "The medals," says Joe, "will be nice to keep as a niomento. As for the uniform—well. I can't get into it any more ! The Kupchunos Bros, closed the East Windsor Drive-In, between East Hartford and Thompsonville, for the winter. Final show of the season featured two Paramount revivals, "Holiday Inn" and "Wake Island" Rifkin circuit's Jefferson, Springfield, has a new dinnerware giveaway . . . The E. M. Loew circuit is running vaudeville shows on weekends at the 1,800-seat Court Square, Springfield, managed by Sam Schechter. The circuit has shuttered the Riverdale Drive-In, West Springfield, also supervised by Schechter. During the recent illness of Hartford Division Manager George E. Landers, Schechter filled in at the Hartford offices, along with Jay Finn of the Hartford Drive-In, Newington. WORCESTER jV/Tarjory Giard is the replacement in the Loew's Poll boxoffice for Laura Mascia, Dorothy Lamour's recent who resigned . . . trip to town gave a columnist a lead on a story about her first visit to Worcester 18 years ago. At that time she was a beauty contest winner with a Fanchon-Marco stage show at the Poli. Two men were sentenced in superior court for breaking into the Greendale and stealing the office safe August 20. Thomas L. Mills, 19. received a six-month term in jail and William Bourget, 20, got a suspended sentence for the same period. They took the safe to a suburban town, where they forced it open and took $433, mostly in rolled coins. Broderick Crawford flew up from Washington for a personal at Loew's Poli. He was guest at an informal luncheon at the Bancroft Room and made several radio appearances. FALL RIVER n procession down the main thoroughfare, a visit to the B.M.C. Dm-fee High school and meeting prominent residents preceded Broderick Crawford's personal appearance at the Empire Theatre in conjunction with the showing of "The Mob" . Capitol Theatre, managed by James Knight, has changed its program policy from two to three new offerings weekly. Shown are pictures which proved boxoffice hits at the other Yamins theatres. Offerings of turlieys were made at several local theatres the week before Thanksgiving. Participating theatres included the Park and Capitol here and the Island Park in nearby Portsmouth, R. I. . . . The Park, managed by James MacNamara, is offering Thursday night dinnerware, silverware, ovenware or gla.ssware giveaways. Tickets' Big in Boston After Nine-Day Bally BOSTON—A nine-day saturation campaign for RKO's musical, "Two Tickets to Broadway," was executed by Red King, advertising and publicity chief for RKO Theatres in Bos- : ton, and Ralph Banghart, director of exploi-: tation for RKO in New England. The film! pulled down the biggest gross of the year at^ the 3,500-seat Memorial Theatre. Tieing in on the huge campaign were the Boston Sunday Herald and the Boston Trav- . eler; Filene's, Jordan's and Kennedy's de-l partment stores: the New York, New Haven 'j & Hartford railroad, the Park Sheraton hotels j and local radio stations. A limerick contest with accompanying art and stories ran a week in the Traveler with the grand prize an all-expense weekend in New York for two. This contest closed on the opening day of the musical with the winner announced later.
