Boroscope Inspection 217
Figure 13-10. Can-annular combustor failure (burning and cracking)
due to liquid mist in the fuel gas. 55,000 horsepower gas turbine-generator
unit with less than 10,000 operating hours.
second- or third-stage turbine nozzle area depending on the total
number of turbine stages. Through this port, the trailing edge of the
upstream turbine blades and the leading edge of the downstream
turbine blades can readily be viewed. Figure 13-29 shows a buildup
of a foreign residue on the leading edges of the third stage turbine
blades that would have been visible on a boroscope inspection.
Gas turbine performance and vibration trend analyses are important
tools to be used in keeping gas turbine down-time and overhaul
expenses to a minimum. Periodic boroscope inspections should
also be used.
