boost compressor/gasifier. Syngas output is increased or decreased as<br />

dem<strong>and</strong>ed while the stop ratio <strong>and</strong> gas control valves remain wide<br />

open.<br />

Features in the Mk. V Speedtronic ® control will h<strong>and</strong>le fuel transfers,<br />

co-firing, purge/extraction valve sequencing, steam injection,<br />

surge protection plus all st<strong>and</strong>ard gas turbine control functions.<br />

Verification testing of the modified control system will take place<br />

at General Electric’s Schenectady, NY, controls laboratory. A revised<br />

Mk. V Speedtronic ® control will be connected to a simulation of an<br />

“FA” gas turbine control system. The results will demonstrate <strong>and</strong><br />

validate the new control software. (Figure 14-8, Control System Development<br />

SUMMARY<br />

The integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) is gaining<br />

acceptance as a clean coal technology with potential for continued<br />
