APPLICATION OF BOTH METHODS TO THE GUJARAT, INDIA EARTHQUAKE DISASTER We estimated the possible impacted areas of Gujarat, India Earthquake Disaster on January 26, 2001 using basic and new method of EDES. The VNIR and TIR image on January 24 shown in Figure 9 and 10 was selected as an image before the earthquake. Figure 11 and 12 shows VNIR and TIR images after the earthquake. These images were used for basic method. The distribution of the average and standard deviation of digital number with each pixel for new method are shown in Figure 13 and 14. The estimated damaged areas using basic method and new one are shown in Figure 15 and 16. The estimated impacted areas spread in Gandhi Dham, Bhuj and Morbi. Some low reliability estimation areas caused by cloud, water or other reasons remain in basic method estimation image (Fig. 15), but there exist no such areas in new method estimation image (Fig. 16). Comparing these two estimation results, it is revealed that new method estimation is better than basic one.
