II. Progress of the Sāsana - 101<br />
ekaṁsaṁ uttarāsaṅgaṁ kārāpetvā, bhikkhūnaṁ pāde vandāpetvā,<br />
arrange the upper robe on one shoulder, worship the monks’ feet,<br />
ukkuṭikaṁ nisīdāpetvā, añjaliṁ paggaṇhāpetvā,<br />
sit on their heels, and holding their hands in respectful salutation,<br />
evaṁ vadehī ti vattabbo:<br />
you should say to them, speak thus:<br />
‘Buddhaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi<br />
‘I go to the Buddha for refuge<br />
Dhammaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi<br />
I go to the Dhamma for refuge<br />
Saṅghaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi<br />
I go to the Sangha for refuge<br />
Dutiyam-pi Buddhaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi<br />
For a second time I go to the Buddha for refuge<br />
Dutiyam-pi Dhammaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi<br />
For a second time I go to the Dhamma for refuge<br />
Dutiyam-pi Saṅghaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi<br />
For a second time I go to the Sangha for refuge<br />
Tatiyam-pi Buddhaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi<br />
For a third time I go to the Buddha for refuge<br />
Tatiyam-pi dhammaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi<br />
For a third time I go to the Dhamma for refuge<br />
Tatiyam-pi saṅghaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmī.’ ti<br />
For a third time I go to the Sangha for refuge.’<br />
Anujānāmi bhikkhave imehi tīhi saraṇagamanehi pabbajjaṁ upasampadan.”-ti<br />
I give permission, monks, for the going-forth and the full ordination through going to<br />
the three refuges.” 153<br />

<strong>The</strong> Story of Full Ordination through Going to the Three Refuges is Finished<br />
153 <strong>The</strong> commentary gives a long explanation of the procedure for this ordination, which<br />
explains that this gives both the going-forth and full ordination, providing that both the<br />
ordainee and the preceptor are pure, and the procedure is correctly followed.
