[Āmalakipāṭihāriyaṁ]
[30: The Emblic Myrobalan Miracle]
Atha kho Uruvelakassapo jaṭilo, tassā rattiyā accayena,
Then the yogi Uruvelakassapa, with the passing of that night,
yena Bhagavā tenupasaṅkami,
approached the Gracious One,
upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavato kālaṁ ārocesi:
and after approaching he announced the time, (saying):
“Kālo Mahāsamaṇa niṭṭhitaṁ bhattan.”-ti
“It is time, Great Ascetic, the meal is ready.”
“Gaccha tvaṁ Kassapa āyāmahan.”-ti
“You go ahead, Kassapa, I am coming.”
Uruvelakassapaṁ jaṭilaṁ uyyojetvā,
After sending away the yogi Uruvelakassapa,
yāya Jambuyā Jambudīpo paññāyati tassā avidūre Āmalakī tato phalaṁ gahetvā,
picking a fruit from an Emblic Myrobalan (tree) not far from the Rose-Apple (tree),
(after which) the Rose-Apple Island is named,
paṭhamataraṁ āgantvā, agyāgāre nisīdi.
and arriving earlier, he sat down in the sacrificial firehouse.
Addasā kho Uruvelakassapo jaṭilo Bhagavantaṁ agyāgāre nisinnaṁ,
The yogi Uruvelakassapa saw the Gracious One sitting in the sacrificial firehouse,
disvāna Bhagavantaṁ etad-avoca:
and after seeing (him), he said this to the Gracious One:
“Katamena tvaṁ Mahāsamaṇa maggena āgato,
“By what path, Great Ascetic, did you come,
ahaṁ tayā paṭhamataraṁ pakkanto,
I set out earlier than you,
so tvaṁ paṭhamataraṁ āgantvā, agyāgāre nisinno.” ti
(but) you, arriving earlier, are (already) sitting down in the sacrificial firehouse.”
“Idhāhaṁ Kassapa taṁ uyyojetvā,
“Here, Kassapa, after sending you away,
