[13: Yasa’s Father]<br />

Atha kho Yasassa kulaputtassa Mātā pāsādaṁ ārūhitvā,<br />

<strong>The</strong>n the young man Yasa’s mother, having ascended the palace,<br />

Yasaṁ kulaputtaṁ apassantī yena seṭṭhī gahapati tenupasaṅkami,<br />

and not finding 140 the young man Yasa approached the merchant householder,<br />

upasaṅkamitvā seṭṭhiṁ gahapatiṁ etad-avoca:<br />

and after approaching the merchant householder, she said this:<br />

“Putto te gahapati Yaso na dissatī.” ti<br />

“Your son Yasa, householder, cannot be found.”<br />

Atha kho seṭṭhī gahapati, catuddisā assadūte uyyojetvā,<br />

<strong>The</strong>n the merchant householder, after sending scouts on horses to the four directions,<br />

sāmaṁ yeva yena Isipatanaṁ Migadāyo tenupasaṅkami.<br />

himself approached the Deer Park at Isipatana.<br />

Addasā kho seṭṭhī gahapati suvaṇṇapādukānaṁ nikkhepaṁ,<br />

<strong>The</strong> merchant householder saw the cast-off golden sandals,<br />

disvāna taṁ yeva anugamāsi.<br />

and after seeing (them) he went after him.<br />

Addasā kho Bhagavā seṭṭhiṁ gahapatiṁ dūrato va āgacchantaṁ.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Gracious One saw the merchant householder, coming while still far away,<br />

disvāna Bhagavato etad-ahosi:<br />

and after seeing (him), this occurred to the Gracious One:<br />

“Yan-nūnāhaṁ tathārūpaṁ iddhābhisaṅkhāraṁ abhisaṅkhāreyyaṁ<br />

“Now what if I were to so arrange it with my psychic powers<br />

yathā seṭṭhī gahapati idha nisinno<br />

that while the merchant householder is sitting here<br />

idha nisinnaṁ Yasaṁ kulaputtaṁ na passeyyā.” ti<br />

he could not see the young man Yasa sitting here”<br />

Atha kho Bhagavā tathārūpaṁ iddhābhisaṅkhāraṁ abhisaṅkhāresi.<br />

<strong>The</strong>n the Gracious One so arranged it with his psychic powers.<br />
