trends and colour forecast, design<br />

pool, and cyber yellow pages, panel<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>textiles</strong> designers and linkages to<br />

other <strong>textiles</strong> related sites.<br />

NCTD uploads various designs and<br />

layouts developed by the pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

artists <strong>of</strong> the Weavers Service<br />

Centres, based on the themes, and<br />

make them available to users and<br />

subscribers.<br />

Off-line Activities: Include holding<br />

<strong>of</strong> special exhibitions on sustained<br />

basis for increased product exposure<br />

and awareness regarding handlooms<br />

products among the public.<br />

The exhibitions <strong>of</strong> NCTD are held under<br />

the title “Tantavi”, meaning “<strong>of</strong> the loom”<br />

in Sanskrit, which is also the registered<br />

trademark <strong>of</strong> NCTD. NCTD is also making<br />

available the developed fabric samples<br />

to the manufacturers and exporters for<br />

development in large scale to cater local<br />

and export market requirement. NCTD<br />

converted full-length theme based fabric<br />

samples into three-dimensional forms,<br />

and displayed them in the exhibitions,<br />

which drew due attention <strong>of</strong> the national<br />

level manufacturers and exporters.<br />

NEW INITIATIVES TAKEN DURING<br />

2011-12 FOR THE HANDLOOM<br />

SECTOR<br />

(I) FINANCIAL PACKAGE for<br />

HANDLOOM SECTOR<br />

In the Budget announcement (2011-<br />

12) on 28.2.2011, the Finance Minister<br />

had announced that the Government<br />

<strong>of</strong> India would provide Rs.3000 crore<br />

for implementing the financial package<br />

for handloom sector on All India basis.<br />

The “Revival, Reform and Restructuring<br />

Package for Handloom Sector” has<br />

been approved with the total financial<br />

implication <strong>of</strong> Rs. 3884 crore, out <strong>of</strong><br />

which Government <strong>of</strong> India’s share is<br />

Rs. 3137 crore and the share <strong>of</strong> the<br />

State Governments is Rs. 747 crore. The<br />

component-wise details <strong>of</strong> the Financial<br />

Package are at table 10.16.<br />

The Package covers loan waiver <strong>of</strong> 100%<br />

<strong>of</strong> principal and 25% <strong>of</strong> interest, which<br />

is overdue as on 31.03.2010 in respect<br />

<strong>of</strong> weavers and their societies. Interest<br />

subsidy <strong>of</strong> 3% for 3 years will be extended<br />

from the date <strong>of</strong> disbursal <strong>of</strong> the fresh<br />

loan extended by banks to the eligible<br />

handloom cooperative societies and<br />

individual handloom weavers. Fresh loan<br />

extended by the Banks will be guaranteed<br />

for a period <strong>of</strong> 3 years, for which the<br />
