7. Consultancy and guidance services<br />

for handloom exporters.<br />

8. Liaison with the Government <strong>of</strong> India<br />

on all procedural and policy matters<br />

relevant to the handloom export<br />

trade.<br />

9. Dealing with trade complaints<br />

pertaining to handloom exports.<br />

10. Liaison with import promotion and<br />

commercial agencies abroad for the<br />

benefit <strong>of</strong> handloom exporters.<br />

Targets and Achievements<br />

The export data has been made<br />

available for Handloom products with<br />

effect from April 2009 onwards. As per<br />

the export data received from the Office<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Director General <strong>of</strong> Commercial<br />

Intelligence & Statistics, during 2009-10 it<br />

was Rs.1252 crores (US $ 278 million).<br />

Target fixed for handloom exports is US $<br />

300 (Rs. 1350 crores) for the year 2010-<br />

11. The achievement during the year was<br />

Rs.1662.89 crores. There is a growth <strong>of</strong><br />

32.73% during the year 2010-11 over the<br />

period <strong>of</strong> 2009-10. For the year 2011-12,<br />

the target has been fixed as US $ 500<br />

million. i.e. Rs. 2250 crores. With the<br />

growth rate <strong>of</strong> 34.90% it is anticipated<br />

that the handloom exports would reach<br />

the target.<br />

As per the statistics, U.S.A. is the<br />

leading importer <strong>of</strong> handloom products<br />

contributing nearly 45.88 % <strong>of</strong> our exports.<br />

EU as a group contributes nearly 33% <strong>of</strong><br />

our exports. After U.S.A., Germany, U.K.,<br />

France, Italy are the leading importers<br />

in EU. Followed in the list are Australia,<br />

-Belgium,U.A.E.,Netherlands, Sweden<br />

and Canada Japan occupying 6,7,8,9<br />

and 10 th positions respectively. Among the<br />

products <strong>of</strong> exports toilet linen & kitchen<br />

linen tops the list followed by Table cloth<br />

and Table Covers, Cushion covers, Printed<br />

Bed linen, Other Furnishing articles, Mats<br />

and Mattings including Bathmats etc.<br />

Pillow cases and pillow slips, etc.<br />

Export Promotion Activities <strong>of</strong> HEPC’S<br />

during the year 2011-12<br />

1. HEPC has participated in 16<br />

International fairs till December,<br />

2011 which includes 2 exploratory<br />

participation and two International<br />

fair in India.<br />

2. In order to sensitise the handloom<br />

Industry about the intricacies involved<br />

in export trade HEPC has been<br />

organizing awareness seminars<br />

across the Country periodically. During<br />

2011-12, HEPC has organized a<br />

Seminar at Varanasi on 13th October,<br />

2011, Bhubaneshwar on 28.01.2012<br />

and Santipur on 31.01.2012.<br />

3. Consequent on the phenomenal<br />

success <strong>of</strong> the India International<br />

Handwoven Fair (IIHF), HEPC is<br />

organizing the second edition <strong>of</strong> the<br />

fair at Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai<br />

from 27 th to 29 th March, 2012. This fair<br />

is organized under the MAI Scheme<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce and Industry<br />

with the component <strong>of</strong> Reverse<br />

Buyer Seller Meet, by inviting 100<br />
