Design, Techno Talk <strong>of</strong> Fashion Technology<br />
added to the series <strong>of</strong> celebrations at NIFT,<br />
New Delhi.<br />
Also, the Department <strong>of</strong> Fashion<br />
Communication created the annual<br />
NIFT Diary, Calendar and Planner as a<br />
medium to celebrate 25 years <strong>of</strong> NIFT,<br />
with the underlying theme ‘Tree <strong>of</strong> Life’.<br />
In addition, the Department undertook the<br />
responsibility <strong>of</strong> designing the space for<br />
the NIFT stall at ‘Tex-Styles India 2011’<br />
held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The<br />
theme situated around ‘Tree <strong>of</strong> Life’ was<br />
taken ahead through a chronological<br />
timeline depicting the highlights &<br />
achievements <strong>of</strong> the institute through the<br />
span <strong>of</strong> 25 years. The NIFT stall bagged<br />
the first prize for stall display.<br />
CONVOCATION<br />
The 17th Convocation ceremony <strong>of</strong> NIFT<br />
Graduates / Post Graduates took place<br />
on 27.12.2011. Sh. Anand Sharma,<br />
Hon’ble CITM, was the Chief Guest who<br />
conferred degrees to 1492 graduates <strong>of</strong><br />
NIFT. Chairman <strong>of</strong> the BOG, Mr. Venu<br />
Srinivasan administered the Convocation<br />
pledge during the ceremony. 66 students<br />
were <strong>of</strong>fered gold medals for exemplary<br />
performance.<br />
FASHION INDUSTRY INTERACTION<br />
An interactive session <strong>of</strong> the Hon’ble<br />
CITM Sh. Anand Sharma with more than<br />
50 prominent Industrialists connected with<br />
Fashion Industry was held on 27.12.2011.<br />
This interaction <strong>of</strong> Hon’ble CITM with<br />
Fashion Industry was first <strong>of</strong> its kind.<br />
The gathering included leading fashion<br />
designers, captains <strong>of</strong> leading Indian and<br />
International brands, retailers, distributors/<br />
franchisers, manufacturers and exporters<br />
<strong>of</strong> garments, leather products and<br />
accessories, NIFT alumni and senior<br />
faculty and Directors <strong>of</strong> NIFT Centres.<br />
Hon’ble CITM in response to the Industry<br />
members, described the significance<br />
<strong>of</strong> Textile Industry, expressed the need<br />
for accreditation and standardization <strong>of</strong><br />
Fashion Institutes in India, emphasized the<br />
need for synergy in the operations <strong>of</strong> NIFT,<br />
NID and FDDI and expressed the desire<br />
for institutional linkages among them. He<br />
stressed the need for taking Indian Brands<br />
abroad which requires <strong>industry</strong> initiation<br />
and <strong>industry</strong> – Institute collaboration and<br />
assured the support <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Textiles</strong><br />
for any such initiatives.<br />

TEXTILES AND MANAGEMENT<br />
(SVPISTM), COIMBATORE<br />
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International<br />
School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Textiles</strong> and Management<br />
(SVPISTM), Coimbatore is an<br />
autonomous institute under the <strong>Ministry</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Textiles</strong>. It was established in 2004 as<br />
the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute <strong>of</strong><br />
Textile Management (SVPITM), a product<br />
<strong>of</strong> the collaborative effort <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ministry</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Textiles</strong>, Government <strong>of</strong> India and the<br />
associations <strong>of</strong> the textile <strong>industry</strong>. Among<br />
the <strong>industry</strong> associations involved in the<br />
establishment <strong>of</strong> the Institution were<br />
Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA),<br />
Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) and<br />
Powerloom Development and Export<br />
Council (PDRXIL).. Since inception,<br />
the School has been vibrant and taking<br />
bold initiatives in achieving its objectives.<br />
Apart from running its own long term<br />
programmes <strong>of</strong> Post Graduate Diploma<br />
in Management with specialisation<br />
in <strong>Textiles</strong> and Management, it has<br />
associated with IGNOU in evolving an<br />
exclusive MBA in <strong>Textiles</strong> Management.<br />
The course is now <strong>of</strong>fered at the School<br />
premises as face-to-face programme and<br />
is involved in developing course material<br />
