Organized India Carpet Expo from<br />

29 th October to 1 st November, 2010 at<br />

Sampurnanand Sanskrit University<br />

Ground at Varanasi where 257<br />

manufacturers & exporters displayed<br />

their exhibits and 229 overseas<br />

carpet buyers from all over the world<br />

visited the fair.<br />

Instituted Export Awards for the years<br />

2007-08 and 2008-09 for outstanding<br />

export performance to the exporters<br />

<strong>of</strong> handmade carpets and other floor<br />

coverings on 29 th October, 2010 at<br />

Varanasi. Hon’ble Minister <strong>of</strong> State<br />

for <strong>Textiles</strong> gave away the award <strong>of</strong><br />

trophies and certificates <strong>of</strong> merits to<br />

28 exporters.<br />

Organized Buyer Seller Meet in Agra<br />

on 2 nd November, 2010 were 25<br />

manufacturer-exporters from Agra<br />

displayed their products and 15<br />

buyers attended the meet.<br />

wherein 5 member-exporters<br />

Indian Institute <strong>of</strong> Carpet Technology<br />

(IICT), Bhadohi.<br />

Indian Institute <strong>of</strong> Carpet Technology,<br />

popularly known as IICT, has been<br />

set up by <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Textiles</strong>, Govt. <strong>of</strong><br />

India in 1998 as a registered Society<br />

under the Society Registration Act,<br />

1860. IICT became truly functional in<br />

the year 2001 by launching B.Tech.<br />

(Carpet & Textile Technology)<br />

programme, a unique degree<br />

programme in Asia, with 20 intakes<br />

which has been raised subsequently<br />

to 60. IICT was set up by <strong>Ministry</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Textiles</strong>, Govt. <strong>of</strong> India to provide<br />

all possible technical support to the<br />

Carpet, Textile & other related sectors<br />

in the form <strong>of</strong> technical experts,<br />

Research & Development, etc. for the<br />

continual growth & make the <strong>industry</strong><br />

competitive at the world level. Institute<br />

has been constantly trying to fulfill<br />

long time pending demand <strong>of</strong> the<br />

sector for technical experts through<br />

its B.Tech. Technocrats. Industry<br />

has also come forward and placed<br />

these technocrats suitably in their<br />

organisation. IICT is providing world<br />

class quality education to its students<br />

by targeting to meet the anticipated<br />

requirements <strong>of</strong> the stake holders<br />

through formal or informal feedbacks<br />

from the various organisations time<br />

to time. In addition to B.Tech. other<br />

trainees <strong>of</strong> the institute in various<br />

courses have also been doing well<br />

and holding good positions in the<br />

organisations. Institute has been ISO-<br />

9001:2008 certified and its laboratory<br />

is NABL (National Accreditation<br />

Board for Testing and Callibration<br />

Laboratories) accredited which<br />

makes its testing reports given to the<br />

exporters valid in many countries <strong>of</strong><br />

the world. B. Tech. programme <strong>of</strong> the<br />

institute is approved by AICTE, New<br />

Delhi & affiliated to U. P. Technical<br />

University, Lucknow. It is also<br />

approved by The Textile Institute;<br />

Manchester (UK). Institute had<br />

received the Best Performer Award<br />

from the U. P. Technical University.<br />

NBA (National Board <strong>of</strong> Accreditation)<br />

has accredited the institute for 3 years<br />

during the visit.<br />
