Nadu a report on documentation <strong>of</strong> 20<br />
unique textile products <strong>of</strong> Tamil Nadu<br />
was successfully completed & the report<br />
submitted to Co-Optex. The study has<br />
created an important data base <strong>of</strong> these<br />
unique <strong>textiles</strong> products for future protection<br />
in the present globalization era.<br />
Post-GI Initiatives<br />
In order the convert the GI registration <strong>of</strong><br />
unique <strong>textiles</strong> into tangible benefits for<br />
the producers, the <strong>Textiles</strong> Committee<br />
has taken up the Post-GI initiatives. The<br />
activities taken up under the initiatives are<br />
as follows:<br />
Facilitating inclusion <strong>of</strong> producers <strong>of</strong> the<br />
selected 21 craft indications in the process<br />
<strong>of</strong> IPR protection through GI Act, 1999<br />
and Capacity Building for containment<br />
<strong>of</strong> infringement sponsored by the Office<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Development Commissioner<br />
(Handicraft), Govt. <strong>of</strong> India:<br />
1. An exhaustive Study &<br />
documentation report <strong>of</strong> 21 products<br />
was completed.<br />
2. 21 cluster level workshops organised<br />
at selected production centres<br />
<strong>of</strong> selected craft indications. The<br />
number <strong>of</strong> stakeholders participated<br />
in the workshop are 3295.<br />
3. 1 State level workshop was organised<br />
at Ahmedabad and more than 400<br />
stakeholders from 5 selected craft<br />
indications <strong>of</strong> Gujarat participated<br />
and interacted with the experts on<br />
Post –GI initiatives. The workshop<br />
was organized on 1 st April, 2011 at<br />
Ahmedabad.<br />
Other Initiatives:<br />
Impact Assessment <strong>of</strong> MGNREGA scheme<br />
on Textile Consumption in Rural India:<br />
The study was undertaken by the <strong>Textiles</strong><br />
Committee to assess the impact <strong>of</strong><br />
MGNREGA scheme on textile purchase in<br />
rural India. The study was conducted with<br />
the help <strong>of</strong> the data collected from 25,000<br />
MGNREGA beneficiary households<br />
across the country. The study estimated<br />
a 4.38 % increase in textile purchase by<br />
the beneficiary families during 2010-11.<br />
Studies on Export Competitiveness <strong>of</strong><br />
Indian T & C products :<br />
As a part <strong>of</strong> new initiatives the following<br />
studies have been undertaken to assess<br />
the competitiveness <strong>of</strong> Indian textile &<br />
clothing products in international market.<br />
The market selected for the purpose are<br />
USA & EU. A study for assessing the<br />
impact <strong>of</strong> India, Sri Lanka FTA is also<br />
organised. The studies organised are:<br />
= Competitiveness <strong>of</strong> Indian Clothing<br />
Exports in US Market.<br />
= Competitiveness <strong>of</strong> Indian Textile &<br />
Clothing exports in EU Market.<br />
Registration <strong>of</strong> logo for the project<br />
Grading and Assessment <strong>of</strong> Cotton<br />
Ginning and Pressing Factory under the<br />
Trade Mark Act, 1999.<br />
As a new step in providing value based<br />
service to the textile trade & <strong>industry</strong>,<br />
the Market Research Wing has imitated<br />
the facilitation <strong>of</strong> trade mark registration.<br />
As a first step in this regard, the market<br />
Research Wing is facilitating the trade<br />
