IMPLEMENTATION OF HANDLOOMS<br />
(RESERVATION OF ARTICLES FOR<br />
PRODUCTION) Act, 1985.<br />
The Handlooms (Reservation <strong>of</strong> Articles for<br />
Production) Act, 1985 aims at protecting<br />
millions <strong>of</strong> handloom weavers and<br />
rich cultural heritage <strong>of</strong> India from the<br />
encroachment on their livelihood by the<br />
powerlooms and mill sector. As per latest<br />
amendment vide No. S.O. 2160 dated<br />
3.9.2008, eleven categories <strong>of</strong> textile articles<br />
are reserved under the Act. The physical<br />
as well as financial progress <strong>of</strong> Handloom<br />
Reservation Act, 1985 as on 21.02.2012 is<br />
given at table 10.17 & 10.18.<br />
An Advisory Committee is constituted<br />
comprising <strong>of</strong> 30 members every 3 years to<br />
advise on issues relating to Enforcement<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Act.<br />
ASSOCIATION OF CORPORATIONS<br />
AND APEX SOCIETIES (ACASH)<br />
The Association <strong>of</strong> Corporations and<br />
Apex Societies <strong>of</strong> Handlooms (ACASH)<br />
is a national level apex organization <strong>of</strong><br />
the national level, state level and interstate<br />
level handloom development<br />
corporations and apex handloom<br />
cooperative societies. ACASH was<br />
registered in June 1984 as a society<br />
under the Societies Registration Act 1860<br />
