b) To develop a multifunctional finish<br />
with antibacterial, deodorant, shrink<br />
resistant and improved dyeing<br />
properties by grafting <strong>wool</strong> with<br />
chitosan biopolymer for apparel grade<br />
<strong>wool</strong>len products.<br />
c) Negative ion finishing for <strong>wool</strong>len<br />
carpets, based on nanoparticles<br />
<strong>of</strong> Piezoelectric, Pyroelectric,<br />
triboelectric series materials and FIR<br />
radiating ceramics to generate healthy<br />
environment for the users.<br />
Major Consultancy Assignments<br />
Undertaken By WRA<br />
Following major consultancy assignments<br />
were undertaken by WRA:<br />
= Defect Analysis for carpet yarn was<br />
carried out for one <strong>of</strong> our member<br />
mills.<br />
= Evaluation <strong>of</strong> inputs & feasibility report<br />
on running <strong>of</strong> plants at Cawnpore<br />
Woollens Mills for low capacity<br />
production.<br />
= To set up, upgrade Quality Processing<br />
activities <strong>of</strong> <strong>wool</strong> at several (5)<br />
Common Facility Centres/ Units in<br />
<strong>wool</strong> cluster areas.<br />
A National Seminar cum Workshop<br />
on ‘Recent R&D Initiatives and<br />
Development Schemes for Wool<br />
and Woollens’ was organized by Wool<br />
Research Association on 28 th May 2011<br />
at Mumbai (jointly with CWDB, Jodhpur)<br />
inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister <strong>of</strong> State<br />
for <strong>Textiles</strong>, Smt. Panabaaka Laxmi. The<br />
occasion was used to disseminate the<br />
findings <strong>of</strong> Research Projects undertaken<br />
during the last 2 years before the august<br />
gathering <strong>of</strong> more than 200 delegates from<br />
Industry, Academic Institutions <strong>of</strong> Research<br />
& Learning and Government <strong>of</strong>ficials.<br />
A Quarterly Newsletter from the Institute<br />
“Wool Tech” was launched by the Hon’ble<br />
Minister at the same venue, alongwith<br />
a Book publication release on “Quality<br />
Norms for Indian Worsted Industry.”<br />
Select Papers Published / Presented<br />
During the period 10 Review/research<br />
papers authored by WRA Scientists have<br />
been published in renowned journals.<br />
Besides, half a dozen research papers<br />
were also presented in various seminars/<br />
conferences.<br />
Training & HRD<br />
Two training programmes on ‘Quality<br />
Testing <strong>of</strong> <strong>Textiles</strong>’ & ‘Vocational<br />
Orientation Programme’ for decentralized<br />
and organized sectors respectively<br />
were conducted at WRA Laboratories<br />
& Raymonds, Vapi, during the month <strong>of</strong><br />
January, 2012. Fresh technical talent was<br />
inducted and capacity building through<br />
HRD programmes was imparted to the<br />
existing technical personnel.<br />
TEXTILES COMMITTEE<br />
The <strong>Textiles</strong> Committee, established by<br />
the <strong>Textiles</strong> Committee Act, 1963, has<br />
