w<strong>as</strong> conducted in the framework <strong>of</strong> the project <strong>of</strong> the International Organization for Migration (<strong>IOM</strong>)<br />

“Supporting the implementation <strong>of</strong> the migration <strong>and</strong> development component <strong>of</strong> the EU – <strong>Moldova</strong> Mobility<br />

Partnership” funded by the EU within the European Neighbourhood <strong>and</strong> Partnership Instrument, the project<br />

<strong>of</strong> the State University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Moldova</strong> (SUM) “Support to the National Action Plan on the protection <strong>of</strong> <strong>children</strong><br />

<strong>left</strong> without parental care <strong>as</strong> a consequence <strong>of</strong> migration”, funded by the Czech Development Agency through<br />

Carit<strong>as</strong> Czech Republic <strong>and</strong> the UN Population Fund in <strong>Moldova</strong> (UNFPA).<br />

The analysis <strong>and</strong> findings <strong>of</strong> this report, interpretations <strong>and</strong> conclusions expressed in the publication are <strong>of</strong> the<br />

authors <strong>and</strong> do not necessarily reflect the views <strong>of</strong> the funding agencies.<br />

“Children deprived <strong>of</strong> parents’ care <strong>as</strong> a consequence <strong>of</strong> migration encounter difficulties in defining their<br />

personal <strong>and</strong> family identity. They form their representation <strong>of</strong> family depending on people who are near.<br />

Often, migrants’ <strong>children</strong> perceive their present family <strong>as</strong> a ,,new” family category made <strong>of</strong> gr<strong>and</strong><strong>children</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> gr<strong>and</strong>parents”.<br />
