healing, bricolage and the use of symbols through faith is still practised. When we feelsick, we want whatever might work. Indeed this thesis is itself an example of bricolage, collecting material from everywhere and showing how it works together in the world ofideas. The research examines to what extent spiritual healing is complementary to medicalpractice and what are the limitations and successes of spiritual healing. In the NHS Plan(Department of Health 2000:106), the Government directive for the health service of themillennium embraces partnership. There exists a limited clinical literature which has attempted this3
