specialisation in psychiatry and psychotherapy (including psychotherapy oriented towards cognitive-behaviour therapy) at no cost to the doctors undergoing specialty training. The practical neurology year, which is compulsory for every trainee in psychiatry, is provided through an exchange with the Department of Neurology of the University Hospital Düsseldorf and the Division of Neurology at the LVR- Klinikum. In the autumn of 2007, a working group was established to procure certification by the DGPPN (the German Association for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy) for the post-graduate specialty training (Coordinator: J. Zielasek). This group features the Training Manager, the hospital’s Quality Management Representative (T. Fabis) and the representatives of the junior doctors in specialty training (M. Dolgner, M. Blaeser [until 2008], C. Schmidt- Kraepelin [since 2008]). This group had suggested several organisational and structural improvements, which were gradually implemented, including the systematic organisation of theoretical seminars, changes in the way post-graduate training courses are conducted, the introduction of a mentor system and the conduct of a survey among doctors undergoing specialty training about possible improvements of their curriculum at the LVR-Klinikum (being performed in addition to the survey initiated by the Medical Associations in spring 2009). Certification was obtained in March 2010. teACHinG The LVR-Klinikum Düsseldorf hospital is fully authorised as a provider of post-graduate specialist training in psychiatry and psychotherapy (Training Supervisor: W. Gaebel) and in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy (Training Supervisor: W. Tress). It is also certified, for one year, as a provider of post-graduate specialist training in neurology (Training Supervisor: M. Griese). The post-graduate specialty training conference meets once a week. The curriculum is designed to enable post-graduate medical doctors to acquire the specialisation in psychiatry and psychotherapy after a period of 5 years (Table 9). The Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy hosts regular psychiatric-psychotherapeutic colloquia for medical doctors and psychologists, generally held on Wednesdays between 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. Since 2008, these colloquia have been dealing with scientific topics of particular relevance and are regularly certified by the Medical Association North Rhine with 2 CME points.
