lVr-KlINIKUM DÜSSelDOrF – HOSPItal OF tHe HeINrIcH-HeINe UNIVerSItY DÜSSelDOrF 2.2 Clinical Facilities 2.2.1 Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy 2.2.1.1 Division of General Psychiatry and Psychotherapy I The Division of General Psychiatry and Psychotherapy I (GP I) comprises 73 inpatient beds and provides healthcare for the southern parts and suburbs of Düsseldorf, which have approximately 200,000 inhabitants (the districts of Unterbach, Vennhausen, Flingern, Lierenfeld, Eller, Wersten, Himmelgeist, Garath, Holthausen, Benrath, Urdenbach, Hellerhof, Hassels). People from these areas can be admitted and receive inpatient treatment in one of the two “sector wards” or attend the day care unit (14 treatment places) or the institute’s emergency admission unit. Division GP1 also offers two wards with special therapeutic facilities (such as a mother-and-child treatment area). Therapy facilities of the Division of General Psychiatry 1 The division provides flexible treatment options integrating biopsychosocial treatment components. Treatment includes specific pharmacological treatment that addresses individual symptoms and the specific features of the illness and also a wide range of other treatment options in which the individual treatment plans are adapted by the medical doctors to suit their patients’ individual requirements. Therapy is provided in individual and group sessions and includes the full range of drug treatment, psychotherapy, social and milieu therapy, ergotherapy and physiotherapy approaches. 24 Sector Units Intensive Care Units Outpatient Clinic Division of General Psychiatry I – Sector 3 73 Inpatient Beds 12 Day Clinic Places Outpatient Clinic Secure Ward 14 E, Sektor 3 Open Ward 14 H Day Care Unit Ward 14 F: Comorbidity Ward 14 G: Millieu therapy and Psychotherapy Sector wards The secure ward 14 E is the primary emergency ward for patients from the southern areas and suburbs of Düsseldorf who appear to represent a risk to others or themselves. Thirty percent of the patients are free to leave the secure ward within a period of three days, 50% within a week. Further treatment is provided either by the open or specialised units or in the form of outpatient care (in the division’s own outpatient unit, if indicated). Ward 14 H is an emergency ward – open 24 hours a day, 7 days per week – for persons with psychotic or affective disorders or psychosocial crises. One special feature is the facility to admit “mother and child” in the event of postpartum psychoses or depressions. Specialised units Comorbidity unit This treatment unit has been designed for persons with psychotic, affective or personality disorders and an additional substance abuse who cannot be adequately reached by a symptom-oriented standard therapy or who would be likely to terminate such a therapy prematurely and who are likely to be overburdened by the requirements of dependence-specific treatment.
