office-based specialists or general practitioners. A personalised treatment plan
addresses all aspects of the individual’s disorder. Key therapy modules include
drug treatment, psychotherapy with individual and group behaviour therapy
sessions, conflict-focused client-centred therapy, age-adapted self-efficacy and
desensitisation training, cognitive behaviour therapy, empowering memory and
concentration training, reality orientation training and training in routine skills.
Ten of the 25 places in the Day Care Unit are reserved for people with dementia.
Outpatient units
The gerontopsychiatric outpatient unit treats approximately 1,300 people
annually, focusing on the early detection and treatment of Alzheimer’s dementia
and other forms of dementia. The Institutional Outpatient Unit also treats people
with other mental illnesses (specifically affective disorders and schizophrenic
psychoses as well as all other mental disorders commonly associated with old
age) in cases in which the severity of the disorder rules out treatment by officebased
