CommunicationsP12x/EN CT/Eb6IEC 60870-5-103 DATABASEMiCOM P120/P121/P122/P123 Page 31. IEC60870-5-103 INTERFACEThe IEC60870-5-103 interface is a master/slave interface with the relay as the slave device. This protocol is based on the VDEW communication protocol. The relay conforms tocompatibility level 2, compatibility level 3 is not supported. The following IEC60870-5-103 facilities are supported by this interface:• Initialisation (Reset)• Time Synchronisation• Event Record Extraction• General Interrogation• Cyclic Measurements• General Commands1.1 Physical connection and link layerConnection is available for IEC60870-5-103 through the rear RS485 port. It is possible toselect both the relay address and baud rate using the front panel interface. Following achange, a reset command is required to re-establish communications. The parameters of the communication are the following:• Even Parity• 8 Data bits• 1 stop bit• Data rate 9600 or 19200 bauds1.2 InitialisationWhenever the relay has been powered up, or if the communication parameters have beenchanged a reset command is required to initialise the communications. The relay willrespond to either of the two reset commands (Reset CU or Reset FCB), the difference beingthat the Reset CU will clear any unsent messages in the relay’s transmit buffer. The relay will respond to the reset command with an identification message ASDU 5, theCause Of Transmission COT of this response will be either Reset CU or Reset FCBdepending on the nature of the reset command. The following information will be containedin the data section of this ASDU:Manufacturer Name: Schneider ElectricThe Software Identification Section will contain the first four characters of the relay modelnumber to identify the type of relay, e.g. P123.In addition to the above identification message, if the relay has been powered up it will alsoproduce a power up event.1.3 Time synchronisation (P122 & P123 only)The relay time and date can be set using the time synchronisation feature of the IEC60870-5-103 protocol. The relay will correct for the transmission delay as specified in IEC60870-5-103. If the time synchronisation message is sent as a send/confirm message then the relaywill respond with a confirm. Whether the time synchronisation message is sent as a sendconfirm or a broadcast (send/no reply) message, a time synchronisation message will bereturned as Class 1 data.
