Lucy-Spew #17 … on owning UP to Sin
Lucy: ―When man is left to his own devices, he travels paths that are dangerous and deadly.
For this cause, the prophet wrote: ‗O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not
in man that walketh to direct his steps.‘ (Jeremiah 10:23) …
God, on the other hand, knows what is best for man. Therefore, he leads man down paths
of peace and prosperity. ‗The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down
in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in
the paths of righteousness for His name‘s sake.‘ (Psalm 23:1-3) …
Man has a tendency to forget that God‘s instructions are right. He doubts whether God‘s
precepts are really good for him. He convinces himself that God‘s commandments are too
restrictive. He assumes that he knows what is best for his life. When fully persuaded of these
things, he sets out on a path that is in total disregard of God‘s Word.‖ 32
―Biblical preaching always reproves, rebukes, and exhorts. It does not tickle your ears
and go along with your own desires. So when you hear the Word preached or when you read the
Word, allow it to confront your sin. God only wounds in order to heal. When Scripture
confronts you, don‘t dodge it. By owning up to sin and turning from it, you will grow to be more
like Jesus.‖ 33
Scaughdt: Well, my dear Friend … Once again
you have almost completely ignored my latest
series of well-researched comments, and simply
provided us with some new points from some new
sources … Fair enough … Indeed, I am actually
grateful for the opportunity to continue to flesh out
this conversation – one which is slowly yet surely
transforming itself into a relatively comprehensive,
Love-infused Bible Study …
―Little children, let us Love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action … And this is
his commandment: that we should believe in the Way of his Son, Jesus Christ, and thereby Love
one another – just as he has commanded us.‖ ~ 1 John 3:18-23
