Scripture to counter mine.‖ … Lucy, my dear Friend, of course I am going to respond to your
few verses that support the Path of Paul with my many that illuminate The Way of Christ! You
have shown that you won‘t listen to any reasoned argument from me, so responding with
Scripture seems to be the only way that I can ever hope get you to understand what I am
attempting to share with you. Of course, for you to comprehend the Scripture I have been
sending, you will have to one day actually read it and then actually put it into practice, and yet
at least it is there for you should you ever decide to do so.
More importantly (at least for now), I find myself wondering the following: How is it
possible for my Scripture to counter yours anyway, Lucy? After all, you say you believe in the
whole Bible, so if I am presenting you with direct quotes from that very tome, then there really is
no way that those verses can contradict your beliefs, right? …
(Forgive the seemingly light-hearted sarcasm there, my Friend, but this is the very
problem we have been having from the beginning – namely, your refusal to humble yourself to
even the remote possibility that you don‘t have all the answers to Scriptural interpretation;
something even the most devout of Christian pastors and even the most learned of biblical
scholars readily admits that he or she does not possess.)
