successful. Our ships did not encounter attack opposition from<br />
<strong>the</strong> enemy as anticipated. Fighter escort was on <strong>the</strong> job and<br />
perhaps kept <strong>the</strong> enemy from trying to attack. Ships taking part<br />
were; #513, Capt Kuehl and crew; #580, Lt. Mack and crew; #947<br />
(322 ship). Capt Ranzoni and crew; #774, Lt. Register and crew;<br />
#909, Lt. Hackleman and crew; #636, Lt. Reid and crew; and #333<br />
(322nd ship). Lt. Wilkinson and crew. The latter ship aborted due<br />
to mechanical failure.<br />
S/Sgt. Walter M. Reich, and S/Sgt. Rocco Poppa both completed<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir tours <strong>of</strong> duty.<br />
23 March 1944: On <strong>the</strong> 23,an Airdrome at Kiel, Germany, was <strong>the</strong><br />
primary target. Due to 10/10 cloud cover over <strong>the</strong> A/P an<br />
alternate target , Ahlen, Germany was bombed with fair results.<br />
Six ships <strong>of</strong> this squadron participated. All <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m completed<br />
<strong>the</strong> mission and returned safely. 1st/Lt. Philip Mack, Pilot,<br />
completed his tour <strong>of</strong> duty. The following ships too part in this<br />
mission: Ship #563, Lt. Gorby and crew, #542, Capt Ranzoni and<br />
crew; #172, Lt. Pickard and crew, #075, Lt. Register and crew;<br />
#909, Lt. James and crew; #116, Lt. Wilkinson and crew.<br />
On this day, when Lt. Mack completed his tour, it marked <strong>the</strong><br />
completion <strong>of</strong> tours for all members <strong>of</strong> Capt. Bramble's crew, with<br />
<strong>the</strong> exception <strong>of</strong> S/Sgt. Bernasconi, who is missing in action.<br />
Two complete crews reported to <strong>the</strong> squadron for tours <strong>of</strong><br />
operational duty which are as follows: 1/Lt. Sheriff, Pilot,<br />

Bartoli, Navigator; 2/Lt. Blum, <strong>Bomb</strong>ardier; S/Sgt. McDonald,<br />
Engineer; Sgt. Steiner, Flexible gunner; Sgt. Larkin, Radio<br />
Operator; Sgt. Shields, Tail Gunner; Sgt. Mead, Ball Turret<br />
Gunner; and Sgt. Hinkle, Flexible Gunner.<br />
24 March 1944: On <strong>the</strong> 24th, Frankfurt, Germany was bombed as <strong>the</strong><br />
secondary target due to 10/10th clouds over <strong>the</strong> primary,<br />
Schweinfurt, Germany. <strong>Bomb</strong>ing results were unobserved as <strong>the</strong>re<br />
was 10/10th clouds over <strong>the</strong> secondary also.<br />
Ten ships <strong>of</strong> this squadron took part, one <strong>of</strong> which aborted due to<br />
mechanical failure. The ships and crews participating were as<br />
follows: Ship #504, ? Lt./Col. Berry, Air Commander, Capt<br />
