16 Feb. 1945: A Benzol plant, 6 miles NNE <strong>of</strong> center <strong>of</strong> Essen ,<br />

located in Gelsenkirchen , Germany , was bombed visually. The<br />

strike photos show excellent results. All our crews returned<br />

safely and <strong>the</strong>re were no aborts. Crews taking part in this<br />

mission were: Major Taylor and <strong>the</strong> “A” crew in ship #478 leading<br />

<strong>the</strong> group; #116, Lt. H<strong>of</strong>fman and crew; #630 (Dep. GP. Lead), Lt.<br />

Yavis and crew; #088 (322 ), Lt. Whitten and crew; #806, Lt.<br />

nd<br />

Holliday and crew, #431, Lt. Shambaugh and crew; #755 (322 ),<br />

st<br />

Lt. Harvey and crew, #841, Lt. Skawienski and crew; #061 (401 ),<br />

nd<br />

Lt. McKnight and crew; #901 (322 ), Lt. Dickson and crew; #707<br />

This was considered a very successful mission.<br />

17-18 Feb. 1945: There was no flying as far as operational<br />

describable ground training activities took <strong>the</strong> attention <strong>of</strong> our<br />

crews on <strong>the</strong>se days. Missions were concerned on <strong>the</strong>se two days.<br />

However, <strong>the</strong> same<br />

19 Feb. 1945: The Benzin Plant at Dortmund , Germany was attacked<br />

by this group by “GH”. Results were unobserved. Crews taking part<br />

in this mission were: Squadron lead #145 (324 ) Capt. Donohue<br />

and crew; #035, Lt. Shambaugh and crew; #636, Lt. Holliday and<br />

crew; #843, Lt. Yavis and crew; #379, Lt. Skawienski and crew;<br />

#540, Lt. Adams and crew; #429 (401 ), Lt. McKnight and crew;<br />

#618, Lt. Whitten and crew; #909, Lt. Cochran and crew; #116, Lt.<br />

H<strong>of</strong>fman and crew; #678 (401 ), Lt. Dickson and crew. There were<br />

no abortives and all returned safely to base.<br />

20 Feb. 1945: Nienburg , Germany was <strong>the</strong> target, hitting <strong>the</strong><br />

railway workshops by “GH”, The bombing was unobserved. Twelve<br />

ships <strong>of</strong> our squadron participated in this mission. Ship #471,<br />

leading <strong>the</strong> squadron, Lt. Partridge and crew; #116, Lt. H<strong>of</strong>fman<br />

th<br />

and crew; #568 (324 ), Lt. Skawienski and crew; #618, Lt. Yavis<br />

and crew; #379, Lt. Holliday and crew; #841, Lt. Shambaugh and<br />

crew. Lt. McKnight and crew failed to return due to a direct flak<br />

burst, several chutes were seen. There were no abortives.<br />

21 Feb. 1945: Again, Nienburg , Germany was our target. The<br />

Railway Station and goods yard was bombed on “PFF” but no results<br />

were seen. Our squadron took <strong>the</strong>ir turn at “stand down” so were<br />

not participating in this mission. Grounds school and training<br />

activities were carried out with fair attendance.<br />

22 Feb. 1945: The railroad traffic center at Stendal , Germany ,<br />

was attacked on this date by our group. <strong>Bomb</strong>ing was done visually<br />
