24 August 1943<br />

Captain Gladstone and Lt. Rodman piloted ships on <strong>the</strong> mission to Villacoublay, France. Our<br />

group were just <strong>of</strong>f to <strong>the</strong> right <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Target so did not drop <strong>the</strong>ir bombs. All ships <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> group<br />

returned without casualty, meeting extremely light fighter resistance, largely because P-47 escort<br />

took us on <strong>the</strong> whole route over enemy territory.<br />

The following is a list <strong>of</strong> our planes to date:<br />

The o<strong>the</strong>rs have not been given a name as yet.<br />

27 August 1943<br />

Three <strong>of</strong> our ships piloted by Lt.'s Rodman, Schaper and Smith took <strong>of</strong>f on mission to Water,<br />

France, a suspicious German construction project. <strong>Bomb</strong>ing was not good. All ships returned.<br />

30 August 1943<br />

Three <strong>of</strong> our ships - Pilots Rodman, Schaper and Smith took <strong>of</strong>f on mission to bomb Romilly<br />

Airdrome, an Airdrome, south <strong>of</strong> Amiens. Bad wea<strong>the</strong>r over <strong>the</strong> target forced attack <strong>of</strong> target<br />

opportunity. Lt. Schaper completed mission, Lt. Smith Aborted, Lt. Rodmans’ ship went down in<br />

collision just after leaving <strong>the</strong> English Coast south <strong>of</strong> Beachy Head, with little hope for crew, who<br />

were as follows.<br />
