6 November 1944: On <strong>the</strong> 6 , Hamburg , Germany was our target,<br />

<strong>the</strong> lead and high squadrons bombed by PFF methods and <strong>the</strong> low<br />

squadron bombed on partial visual; not observing <strong>the</strong>ir hits. The<br />

following took part by representing <strong>the</strong> 323 in <strong>the</strong> lead<br />

squadron: Major Taylor and Capt. Reid with <strong>the</strong> “A” crew in #135<br />

crew in #116; #431, Lt. Basnight and crew; #909, Lt. Mullins and<br />

crew; #841, Lt. Machee and crew; #083, Lt. Dietrich and crew;<br />

#618, Lt. Kirkham and crew; #911, Lt. Donohue and crew; Lt.<br />

Hettema in #642; #806, Lt. Yavis and crew; #490, Lt. O’Neil and<br />

crew and #636, Lt. Bull and crew.<br />

th 7 & 8 <strong>of</strong> November 1944: On <strong>the</strong>se two days, adverse wea<strong>the</strong>r had<br />

set in, so crews participated in ground school with good<br />

attendance.<br />

9 November 1944: On <strong>the</strong> 9 , a change in bombing tactics took<br />

place by bombing a tactical target in <strong>the</strong> Metz area in support <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> ground troops. Results were unobserved. This was also our<br />

first bombing by “GH” methods. Ships and crews taking part in<br />

this mission were: Capt. Maxwell and <strong>the</strong> “A” crew; in #357<br />

st (401 ); #490, Lt. O’Neil and crew; #618, Lt. Kirkham and crew;<br />

<strong>the</strong>re were no aborts.<br />

10–16 November 1944: Adverse wea<strong>the</strong>r prevented us from<br />

participating in combat activities during this period. Ground<br />

School and training activities were carried out with fair<br />

attendance. Passes were given to a number <strong>of</strong> personnel so as to<br />

have <strong>the</strong>m back on base when wea<strong>the</strong>r changes come.<br />

16 November 1944: Ano<strong>the</strong>r bombing mission in support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

ground troops in <strong>the</strong> Aachen area was made on <strong>the</strong> 16 . <strong>Bomb</strong>ing<br />

was made by PFF methods with fair observations. Crews taking part<br />
