28 Feb. 1945: Schwartz , Germany was ano<strong>the</strong>r railway storage and<br />

siding marshalling yards bombed by our bombers on <strong>the</strong> ”GH”. No<br />

results were observed. Thirteen ships <strong>of</strong> this squadron<br />

participated as follows: Squadron lead #478, Lt. Williams and<br />

crew; #263, Lt. Adams and crew, #379, Lt. Brown and crew; #909,<br />

Lt. Sc<strong>of</strong>ield and crew; #431, Lt. Holliday and crew; #806, Lt.<br />

Skawienski and crew; #939, Lt. Cochran and crew; #618, Lt. Dean<br />

and crew; #225, Lt. H<strong>of</strong>fman and crew; #636, Lt. Blanchet and<br />

crew; #615, Lt. Dickson and crew; #116, Lt. Thompson and crew.<br />

All returned safely to base and <strong>the</strong>re were no abortives.<br />

In summary for <strong>the</strong> month – this squadron sent 151 ships and crews<br />

on operational missions for <strong>the</strong> month – 8 <strong>of</strong> which aborted,<br />

making a total <strong>of</strong> 143 sorties. The loss <strong>of</strong> one crew on <strong>the</strong> 20 th<br />

was our only loss. Ship #909 to date has 113 missions to her<br />

credit without a single abortive.<br />

MARCH 1945:<br />

1 March 1945: Mission #304 for <strong>the</strong> group was made on Heilbrownn ,<br />

Germany . <strong>Bomb</strong>ing was made on “GH” methods, with good runs. Crews<br />

reported that upon leaving <strong>the</strong> target, <strong>the</strong>y could see fire and<br />

smoke coming from what <strong>the</strong>y described as being <strong>the</strong> target. This<br />

was a railway traffic center. Twelve ships <strong>of</strong> this squadron<br />

participated in this raid as follows: Lt. Partridge and crew,<br />

2 March 1945: On <strong>the</strong> 2 , <strong>the</strong> groups 305 mission was carried out<br />

on Chemnitz, and Jocketa , Germany . The target assigned was<br />

Bohlen, lead and low squadrons bombed <strong>the</strong> marshalling yards at<br />

Chemnits. The high bombed a bridge at Jocketa. <strong>Bomb</strong>ing at Jocketa<br />

was excellent while <strong>the</strong> marshalling yards were bombed “PFF”. The<br />

rd 323 squadron was “stood down” in <strong>the</strong>ir turn, so did not<br />

participate in this mission.<br />

3 March 1945: The 306 mission was on Chemnitz , Germany . Again<br />

<strong>the</strong> marshalling yards caught <strong>the</strong> effects <strong>of</strong> our bombings. This<br />

was <strong>the</strong> secondary target. The syn<strong>the</strong>tic oil plant at Gropach was<br />

<strong>the</strong> target assigned. <strong>Bomb</strong>ing was made with unobserved results by<br />

“PFF” methods. The 323 squadron led <strong>the</strong> group. The group<br />

leading <strong>the</strong> division, Col. Sheeler and Lt. Partridge and crew,<br />

flew lead in ship #630; #636, Lt. Skawienski and crew; #263, Lt.<br />

Adams and crew; #471 (Dep. Division Lead) Lt. Yavis and crew;
