crew; #116, Lt. H<strong>of</strong>fman and crew; #636, Lt. Williams and crew;<br />

#379, Lt. Lawson and crew; #772 (324th), Lt. Whitten and crew.<br />

All returned safely but <strong>the</strong>re were two abortives, which were:<br />

crew. This was due and credited as an engineering abortives.<br />

22 Jan. 1945: This group participated in a raid to Sterkrade.<br />

Germany , bombing <strong>the</strong> syn<strong>the</strong>tic oil plant <strong>the</strong>re visually with<br />

excellent results. Our squadron was on its regular "stand down"<br />

so did not send any crews. Ground school and training activities<br />

were carried out with good attendance.<br />

23-27 Jan. 1945: Due to adverse wea<strong>the</strong>r conditions, this group<br />

did not participate in any missions. During this time, several<br />

crews took passes, while combat members remaining on <strong>the</strong> field<br />

continued ground school and training activities with occasional<br />

flying on practice missions as wea<strong>the</strong>r permitted. On <strong>the</strong> 2nd, our<br />

squadron had a formation for all personnel, for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

having a "sex morality lecture",<br />

Awards were given out by Major Butler to a number <strong>of</strong> men in<br />

appreciation for <strong>the</strong>ir work in <strong>the</strong> squadron.<br />

28 Jan. 1945: The goods yard and station area at Kiln ( Cologne<br />

), Germany was bombed by GH methods on this date. Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

hits were seen on <strong>the</strong> bridge (our MPI). Twelve ships <strong>of</strong> this<br />

squadron took part in <strong>the</strong> mission and we had no abortives. The<br />

ships and crews taking part were as follows: <strong>Group</strong> lead squadron<br />

commanding <strong>of</strong>ficer, Major Taylor and <strong>the</strong> "A" crew in ship #478<br />

(401st), also Dep. <strong>Group</strong> Lead, Lt. Bull and crew; #806, Lt. Yavis<br />

and crew; #431, Lt. Holliday and crew; #939, Lt. Partridge and<br />

crew; #379, Lt. Brown and crew; #116, Lt. H<strong>of</strong>fman and crew; #276,<br />

Lt. Williams and crew, #536, Lt. Lawson and crew; #540, Lt.<br />

Whitten and crew. All returned safely.<br />

29 Jan. 1945: The Railway center at Niederlahnstein. Germany was<br />

bombed by "GH" methods, but bombing was unobserved. Twelve ships<br />

<strong>of</strong> this squadron participated with no abortives. They were:<br />

crew; #540, FIO Adams and crew; #939, Lt. Bull and crew; #806,<br />
