were reported on Fritzlar Airdrome. The following crews<br />

#2490, Lt. O'Neil and crew; #8083, Lt. Stone and crew; #7625, Lt.<br />
Basnight and crw; #7956, Lt. Bull and crew; #7276, Lt. Kirkham<br />
and crew; #7563, Lt. Snow and crew; #8379, Lt. Liekhus and crw;<br />
#1636, Lt. Lu<strong>the</strong>n and crew;#7234, Lt. Hettema and crew; #2116,<br />
Lt. Splawinski and crew, and #7540, Lt. Stevens and crew. All<br />
ships and <strong>the</strong>ir crews returned safely. There were no abortives.<br />
3 Oct. 1944: On <strong>the</strong> 3rd, this squadron was stood down in keeping<br />
with <strong>the</strong> policy <strong>of</strong> a squadron being stood down on every fourth<br />
consecutive mission. Training activities were carried out by<br />
combat personnel. Lt.Col. James F. Berry, Squadron Commander,<br />
having completed his tour <strong>of</strong> operational duty was relieved from<br />
his present assignment. During <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> his command, both in<br />
<strong>the</strong> air and on <strong>the</strong> ground. Major Willis J. Taylor assumed command<br />
on this date.<br />
4 – 5 Oct. 1944: During <strong>the</strong> period <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 4th to 5th, <strong>the</strong>re was<br />
no operational mission due to adverse wea<strong>the</strong>r conditions. Usual<br />
routine was followed by all personnel.<br />
6 Oct. 1944: On <strong>the</strong> 6th, Neubrandenburg , Germany , was bombed,<br />
visually with excellent results. The squadron sent twelve ships<br />
as follows: #7630, Major Taylor, Capt. Pullen and <strong>the</strong> "A" crew<br />
leading; #2490, Lt. O'Neil and crew; #7504, Lt. Stone and crew;<br />
#7956, Lt. McConnell and crew; #8083, Lt. Stevens and crew;<br />
#7625, Lt. Lu<strong>the</strong>n and crew; #8379, Lt. Snow and crew; #2116, Lt.<br />
Corman and crew; #1909, Lt. Liekhus and crew; #7234, Lt. Hettema<br />
and crew; #7540, Lt. Rustand and crew; #7276, Lt. Bull and crew.<br />

7 Oct. 1944: On <strong>the</strong> 7th, Frieburg, Nor<strong>the</strong>ast <strong>of</strong> Chemnitz ,<br />
Germany , was bombed with very good results. Thirteen ships <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>323rd</strong> participated: #8145, Capt. Boggs and <strong>the</strong> "A" crew,<br />
leading; #8083, Lt. Liekhus and crew; #7563, Lt. Kirkham and<br />
crew; #7625, Lt. Basnight and crew; #7276, Lt. Harris and crew;<br />
#2116, Lt. Corman and crew; #7956, Lt. Yavis and crew; #7956, Lt.<br />
Maghee and crew; #1636, Lt. Lu<strong>the</strong>n and crew; #7540, Lt.<br />
Splawinski and crew; #8397, Lt. Liekhus and crew; #1909, Lt.<br />
McConnell and crew. All returned safely and <strong>the</strong>re were no abortives.<br />
Enemy fighters opposition to our ships has been slight, thanks to<br />
<strong>the</strong> fighter squadrons, which escort us to and from <strong>the</strong> target,<br />
areas, but flak still remains intense and accurate.<br />
8 Oct. 1944: There was no mission on <strong>the</strong> eighth. Usual routine on<br />
such days was followed by all personnel.<br />
9 Oct. 1944: The 9th, Schweinfurt , Germany , was bombed by PFF,<br />
results <strong>of</strong> which were unobserved. Thirteen ships took part:<br />
