1 Jan. 1945: Kassel . Germany was our Target for <strong>the</strong> first day <strong>of</strong><br />

January, 1945.<br />

<strong>Bomb</strong>ing was made on <strong>the</strong> marshalling yards visually with very good<br />

results. Our squadron sent 12 ships and crews, all <strong>of</strong> which<br />

returned safely, and <strong>the</strong>re were no aborts. Those participating in<br />

<strong>the</strong> mission were as follows: <strong>Group</strong> lead, Capt. Reid and Capt.<br />

Maxwell with <strong>the</strong> "A" crew; Lt. Kirkham and crew; Lt. Sweet and<br />

crew; Lt. McConnell and crew; Lt. Yavis and crew; Lt. Flynn and<br />

crew; Lt. Donohue and crew; Lt. Adams and crew; Lt. McKnight and<br />

crew; Lt. Partridge and crew; Lt. Williams and crew; Lt. H<strong>of</strong>fman<br />

and crew. Ship numbers for <strong>the</strong>se crews are consecutive as<br />

follows; #630, #618, #083, #379; #806, #276, #911, #540, #490,<br />

#939, #636 and #116. Crews not flying were attending ground<br />

school and training activities.<br />

2 Jan. 1945: Prum Germany Railway Center was <strong>the</strong> target for our<br />

group on <strong>the</strong> 2nd. GH <strong>Bomb</strong>ing was <strong>the</strong> technique used for this<br />

particular bombing run. <strong>Bomb</strong>s for <strong>the</strong> low and lead squadron fell<br />

short <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> target while <strong>the</strong> high squadron had excellent<br />

results. This squadron sent 12 ships but two aborted. Lt.<br />

Partridge in #841, and It. McKnight in #144 (401 ). #144 was due<br />

to and credited as an engineering abortive. #841 was due to <strong>the</strong><br />

tail gunner becoming sick with bad pains in his chest. Crews<br />

completing <strong>the</strong> mission were: Capt. Boggs and crew; leading <strong>the</strong><br />

squadron; Lt. Yavis and crew; Lt. Flynn and crew; Lt. Bull and<br />

crew; Lt. Kirkham and crew; Lt. Sweet and crew; Lt. Sc<strong>of</strong>ield and<br />

crew; Lt. Williams and crew; Lt. H<strong>of</strong>fman and crew; Lt. Adams and<br />

crew; in ships: #632 (324th), #806, #959 (324th) #431, #379,<br />

#083, #909, #636, #116, #540.<br />

3 Jan. 1945: Cologne Germany was bombed with unobserved results<br />

on <strong>the</strong> marshalling yards. 12 ships <strong>of</strong> this squadron participated<br />

on <strong>the</strong> mission with one abortive, It. Adams, in Ship #540, due to<br />

a gas leak at <strong>the</strong> butt <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> right wing. Crews completing and<br />

returning safely were: #478, Squadron lead, Capt. Dietrich and<br />

<strong>the</strong> "A" crew; #618, Lt. Kirkham and crew; #806, Lt. Yavis and<br />

crew; #431, Lt. Bull and crew; #540, FIO Adams and crew; #083,<br />

Lt. Sweet and crew; #939, Lt. Partridge and crew; #490, Lt.<br />

McKnight and crew; #116, Lt. H<strong>of</strong>fman and crew; #379, Lt. Flynn<br />

and crew; #841, Lt. Whitten and crew #836, Lt. Brown and crew.<br />

4 Jan. 1945: There was no mission on <strong>the</strong> 4th, but ground school<br />

and training activities were carried out with fair success. Two
