Introduction
The investigation is framed within collaboration existing between
Graduate Program in Mathematics of the Faculty of Physics-Mathematics
Sciences and Graduate Program in Environmental Sciences of Sciences
Institute of the University of Puebla (BUAP) and is searching an answer to
the environmental, social and economical problems in relation to the
important resource that is the water, in the Puebla valley watershed, by
means of the development of a strategy that promotes a sustainable
management of the resource for all sectors involved in the problem.
The Puebla valley watershed is located in the central region of Mexico
to an average altitude of 2180 meters above sea level, including 38
municipalities of the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala with an aproximate area
of 2.366 Km2 and a population of 2´000,000 inhabitants (INEGI, 2001) is
part of the Atoyac river basin.
General objetive
Propose a medium and long term sustainable management strategy
through of the identification of physical, economical, social and political
relations between different water users, that have avoided a water
sustainable management in the Puebla valley watershed.
Particular objectives
• Develop a mathematical model that describes of dynamic way the
main processes that take part in the hydric balance of the Puebla
valley watershed that allows to know water availability and
distribution within watershed.
• Identify interrelations between physical, social, economical and
institutional factors that causes Actual water problems in the Puebla
valley watershed, with the intention of identifying conflict relations
and understand, in a sistemic way, Puebla valley watershed dinamyc.
• Select suitable indicators to check and evaluate strategy
performance.
