Symposium structure<br />
The symposium will be a mixture<br />
of pl<strong>en</strong>ary sessions giving state-ofthe-art<br />
reviews by highly qualified<br />
keynote speakers, and horizontal,<br />
problem solving sessions with offered<br />
research papers and posters.<br />

Those wishing to give an oral or a<br />

February <strong>2001</strong>. Abstracts should be<br />
preferably submitted as email attachm<strong>en</strong>ts<br />

Registration fee<br />
The cost of the symposium is 110<br />
Euro per person, 45 Euro for stu<strong>de</strong>nts,<br />
for registrations received<br />
before 28 February, and 130/50<br />
Euro respectively thereafter. The fee<br />
inclu<strong>de</strong>s access to all symposium, a<br />
<strong>de</strong>legate’s bag including the docum<strong>en</strong>tation,<br />
and morning/ afternoon<br />
refreshm<strong>en</strong>ts during the meeting. A<br />
separate fee will be incurred for the<br />
confer<strong>en</strong>ce dinner and the post-symposium<br />
excursion.<br />
Please note: A refund less 15% is<br />
possible if cancelling before 15 April<br />
<strong>2001</strong>. If cancelling before 15 May<br />
<strong>2001</strong>, a refund of 50% will be paid.<br />

A wi<strong>de</strong> range of hotels and guesthouses<br />
will be available in Turku<br />
<strong>de</strong>p<strong>en</strong>ding on requirem<strong>en</strong>ts. Hotel<br />

from approximately 40 per night.<br />

Excursions<br />
A one-day post-symposium excursion<br />
by ship has be<strong>en</strong> arranged to the<br />
Southwestern Archipelago and the<br />
Field Station of the Archipelago Research<br />
Institute on the island of Seili<br />
(Själö) on Saturday 9 June. Places are<br />
limited and a charge of Euro 45/30<br />
will be ma<strong>de</strong>, which inclu<strong>de</strong>s lunch.<br />
On the way to Seili visitors will see<br />
parts of the spectacular archipelago,<br />
which consists of more than 30 000<br />
islands and skerries stretching betwe<strong>en</strong><br />
mainland Finland and Åland.<br />
At the Research Station, visitors will<br />
have the opportunity to hear about<br />
the fascinating history of the island<br />
dating back to 17th c<strong>en</strong>tury serving<br />
as a leprosy hospital and later, a<br />
m<strong>en</strong>tal hospital. Visitors will learn<br />
about the research un<strong>de</strong>rtak<strong>en</strong> on<br />
the Baltic Sea and the nearby Archipelago<br />
Biosphere Area. Please indicate<br />

Registration<br />
Registration will comm<strong>en</strong>ce on<br />
Tuesday 5 June <strong>2001</strong> (at16.00-<br />
19.00 hrs) at the University. Registration<br />
and info <strong>de</strong>sk will be op<strong>en</strong><br />
throughout the symposium. The<br />
symposium sessions will start in the<br />
morning of Wednesday 6 June.<br />
