Historical Geographers<br />

The 11th ICHG will be held in<br />

Quebec City (Canada) on August<br />

12-18, <strong>2001</strong>. This tri<strong>en</strong>nial confer<strong>en</strong>ce,<br />

held rec<strong>en</strong>tly in Ulster<br />

(1998), Perth (1995), and Vancouver<br />

(1992), is the largest meeting in<br />

the field. The <strong>2001</strong> confer<strong>en</strong>ce will<br />

focus on the following themes:<br />

• 1. Imperial and colonial historical<br />

geographies<br />

• 2. Historical geographies of the<br />

city<br />

• 3. Environm<strong>en</strong>tal change<br />

• 4. Natural and cultural heritage<br />

• 5. Landscape(s) of collective memories<br />

• 6. The historical geography of leisure<br />

and recreation<br />

N.B.: This list is not exclusive and<br />

contributions on other aspects of<br />

historical geography are also welcomed.<br />

In addition to the papers sessions,<br />

the program inclu<strong>de</strong>s three fields<br />

Excursions:<br />

• 1. A half-day Old Quebec City<br />

excursion.<br />

• 2. An optional one-day tour: The<br />

rural landscape of Kamouraska<br />

(South shore of the Saint Lawr<strong>en</strong>ce<br />

estuary) OR the Beauce region<br />

(typical semi-urban region South<br />

of Quebec City).<br />

• 3. An optional post-confer<strong>en</strong>ce<br />

by a non-refundable <strong>de</strong>posit.<br />

Confer<strong>en</strong>ce fee: CDN $195 (<strong>de</strong>posit<br />

$100). For graduate stu<strong>de</strong>nts/<br />

Retired: CDN $95 (<strong>de</strong>posit $50).<br />

There will be a surcharge of $50<br />

for late registration (after 1 March<br />

<strong>2001</strong>). Full paym<strong>en</strong>t is due by June<br />

30, <strong>2001</strong>.<br />

The fee covers registration, programmes,<br />

the Old Quebec City<br />

field trip, and coffee-break service.<br />

The banquet is optional, as are the<br />

one-day and the post-confer<strong>en</strong>ce<br />

field excursions. Paym<strong>en</strong>t can be<br />

ma<strong>de</strong> either by cheque or by credit<br />

card (Master Card or VISA).<br />

foster communication among <strong>en</strong>vironm<strong>en</strong>tal<br />

historians across Europe,<br />

and with colleagues elsewhere. The<br />

bi<strong>en</strong>nial ESEH confer<strong>en</strong>ces, focusing<br />

on both the international and<br />

national perspective, are one of the<br />

communication platforms the society<br />

has to offer to colleagues around<br />
