Scholars with differ<strong>en</strong>t disciplinary<br />

backgrounds are welcome with<br />

papers or posters on the above m<strong>en</strong>tioned<br />

or other themes. Themes<br />

and sessions will be put together by<br />

conv<strong>en</strong>ors. Early proposals are more<br />

likely to find a place in the program.<br />

Participants will only be inserted<br />

in the final program after formal<br />

registration. Short versions of<br />

accepted papers and posters (maximum<br />

two pages) will be published<br />

in ad<strong>van</strong>ce on this homepage and in<br />

the confer<strong>en</strong>ce portfolio. After the<br />

confer<strong>en</strong>ce a selection of papers will<br />

be published in a thematic volume<br />

and in special journals.<br />

Registration at lowest fee: before<br />

20th of May <strong>2001</strong>. The organiser<br />

will, on request, issue certificates to<br />

be used for applications to employers<br />

or funds for travelling grants,<br />

wh<strong>en</strong> a paper/poster has be<strong>en</strong> accepted.<br />

Fee: 2,000 SEK before 20th<br />

of May <strong>2001</strong>. 2,400 SEK after that<br />

date Inclu<strong>de</strong>s material, coffee, lunches,<br />

official dinner, social ev<strong>en</strong>ts.<br />

Reduced fee: 1,000 SEK after<br />

special application with certificate<br />

from supervisor confirming that the<br />

scholar is a doctoral or master’s stu<strong>de</strong>nt.<br />

The organiser has found ways<br />

and means to support the participation<br />

of young scholars and guests<br />

from less favoured regions. In the<br />

latter case, it may also inclu<strong>de</strong> partial<br />

support for hotel and travelling.<br />

These cases will be treated individually<br />

by the organising committee.<br />

For a volume of critical essays addressing<br />

those cultural spaces bor<strong>de</strong>ring<br />

on the meteorological, we<br />

seek proposals that explore the role<br />

of weather in culture, literature, and<br />

the arts.<br />

Weather, we assume, un<strong>de</strong>rpins<br />

the basic material and emotional<br />

forces that form the basis of how<br />

we live. Every region has its own<br />

weather-from the cold and blustery<br />

to the temperate and ser<strong>en</strong>e-as<br />

well as ways to repres<strong>en</strong>t it. Our<br />

daily conversations are so oft<strong>en</strong><br />

about the weather, yet discussions<br />

of these meteorological influ<strong>en</strong>ces<br />
