12012th International Scientific Conference, April 20-22, 2009 Brno, Czech RepublicMaterial PropertiesIn laboratory test program, continuous gradation has been used [3]. The aggregate was calcareousand 50/70 penetration bitumen was used. Physical properties of the reference and PP modified bitumensamples are given in Table 1. The physical properties of coarse and fine aggregates are given in Tables2 and 3. The apparent specific gravity of filler is 2790 kg/m 3 .Tab 1. The mixingtemperature was around 170 °C. The fibers were premixed with bitumen using a standard mixer at 500rpm. Mixing period was two hours. M-03 type, M-09 type and waste fibers were utilized in thismodification process. For M-03 type fibers, fiber contents of 3‰, 4.5‰ and 6‰ by weight ofaggregate were premixed with bitumen. For M-09 type and waste fibers only 3‰ fiber content wasutilized. According to the workability criteria, M-03 type fibers were found to be the most suitablemodifiers and due to the consistency of the Marshall test results, these fibers with 3‰ content had beendetermined as the optimal addition amount [1].The proportioning of the bituminous mixtureIn order to determine the optimum bitumen content, it is required to perform Marshall stability andflow tests [1, 4]. Optimum bitumen content varies depending on the type and dosage of fibers. Inaddition to optimum bitumen content, the optimal PP amount and type, the homogeneity in thepreparation of the Marshall specimens, the ease in the addition of the PP fibers, the ease in thefabrication of the specimens and the fluctuations of the obtained data are very important. For example,Marshall test results for specimens prepared with more than 3‰ M-03 type fibers and all mixtures made
