The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages offers the possibility to<br />
express the proficiency of a foreign language learner. Scale descriptors are formulated to<br />
show which situations a language learner can cope with and to provide a guide for identifying<br />
existing language levels of non-native language users.<br />
In the discussion concerning language proficiency with respect to German as a foreign<br />
language repeated reference is made to the Common European Framework of Reference<br />
for Languages, although examination and testing formats have also been developed that<br />
check the learner’s command of the language rather than their ability to apply the language<br />
in specific situations. Here there is an overemphasis on speaking and writing activities,<br />
which creates a gap between the practical application of language and speaking and listening<br />
skills.<br />
At the workshop a new testing format was presented that could close this gap. It is called<br />
Taaldorp and it has been developed in the Netherlands. This format is an action-oriented<br />
approach that concentrates on communicative activities and uses them as a basis for assessing<br />
language skills.<br />
1. Zur Entstehung von taaldorp<br />
Das Konzept des taaldorps ist 1993 im Rahmen der Abschlussarbeiten der Lehrerausbildung<br />
von Frau Koning und Frau Koon an der Universität Amsterdam entwickelt und erprobt wor-<br />
