When this happens, they pay a high price for their success—their<br />
personal and social lives may fall apart from neglect while their workrelated<br />
atta<strong>in</strong>ments accumulate.<br />
Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Directors can juggle faster than the eye can see<br />
When the Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Director perceives others’ output as less than<br />
exemplary, he may react with a message to stimulate others to action:<br />
“Don’t just stand there. Do someth<strong>in</strong>g!” Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Directors typically<br />
show adm<strong>in</strong>istrative and leadership qualities that refl ect their ability<br />
to <strong>in</strong>itiate and accomplish tasks, then juggle them.<br />
Th ey have the ability to pick up three balls (tasks) and keep them<br />
all <strong>in</strong> the air at the same time. Th ey’re multi-phasic behavior specialists—able<br />
to simultaneously do many th<strong>in</strong>gs well. Aft er adapt<strong>in</strong>g to<br />
juggl<strong>in</strong>g three balls, they pick up another and another. Th ey end up<br />
juggl<strong>in</strong>g all of them faster than the eye can see where one beg<strong>in</strong>s and<br />
the other ends. However, the pressure mounts as they try to maximize<br />
the quantity of tasks or the quality of results.<br />
Logically, it makes sense to drop one ball to relieve some of the pressure.<br />
Not so with the Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Director. Admission that they can’t<br />
do it all tarnishes their macho image. Th ey like impress<strong>in</strong>g other styles<br />
with their workloads until they get bored or tired of not-enoughhours-<strong>in</strong>-the-day<br />
balanc<strong>in</strong>g acts. Th en they drop everyth<strong>in</strong>g to take<br />
up a new direction or focus for their activities until they tire of the<br />
same pattern aga<strong>in</strong>. Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Directors typically refer to this as reorder<strong>in</strong>g<br />
priorities.<br />
Effi ciency is the name of the game<br />
Adult Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Directors oft en like to accumulate items—especially<br />
ones they th<strong>in</strong>k will save time or money. Effi ciency is the name<br />
of the game. One Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Director told us he’s so impatient that he<br />
