employees either become energized by mingling with people, or they
don’t. Interacting Socializers do. Disneyland even provides peoplefree
decompression areas for their employees during breaks so they
can maintain their positive energy levels with guests.
They’re smooth-talking dreamers
At heart, the Interacting Socializer is a dreamer who is good at getting
others caught up in his ideas. His persuasive powers may simultaneously
amaze his admirers and frustrate his detractors. Th e Interacting
Socializer shows smooth-talking tendencies which, at the
extreme, can be interpreted as either silver-tongued oration or evasive
double-talk. He can appear to be a verbal Pied Piper with a seemingly
unending gift of gab or a wheeling and dealing chatterbox.
Chin up!
As a leader, the Interacting Socializer likes spontaneous, expressive
actions for noticeable results. “Chin up! Th ink positively,” he may say,
to encourage his employees, peers, or superiors to function smoothly.
Statements like “Follow that dream,” and “Climb every mountain,”
sum up Interacting Socializer feelings. Th ough typically somewhat
less motivated by change than Dominant Directors, Interacting Socializers
become more susceptible to risk-taking when pressured by
others to take the chance. If they haven’t fully considered the ramifi cations,
they may regret their impulsiveness aft er it’s too late.
A classic Interacting Socializer who sought the U.S. Presidency was
Hubert Horatio Humphrey, the charismatic Minnesota Senator. When
he died, he received a stately funeral with more attention and sympathy
than many whom had won the Presidency. Without such triumph,
he moved the hearts of the entire nation.
