To head off the Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Director’s impatience before it surfaces,<br />

keep your queries <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g by alternately ask<strong>in</strong>g questions and giv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

additional <strong>in</strong>formation. Do this <strong>in</strong> a practical manner. Dom<strong>in</strong>ant<br />

Directors need to view the meet<strong>in</strong>g as purposeful, so they want to understand<br />

where your questions ultimately lead. When ask<strong>in</strong>g a Dom<strong>in</strong>ant<br />

Director questions, it is essential to fi ne-tune and make them<br />

as practical and logical as possible. Aim questions at the heart of the<br />

issue and ask them <strong>in</strong> a straightforward manner. Only request <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

that is unavailable elsewhere.<br />

When gather<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formation, ask questions show<strong>in</strong>g you have done<br />

your homework about their desired results and current eff orts. Know<br />

the Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Director’s <strong>in</strong>dustry and company. Be sure to make queries<br />

that allow him to talk about his bus<strong>in</strong>ess goals. “S<strong>in</strong>ce your leadership<br />

what happens now?” Gear your study<strong>in</strong>g toward sav<strong>in</strong>g the Dom<strong>in</strong>ant<br />

Director time.<br />

Your presentation, whether it is comb<strong>in</strong>ed with study<strong>in</strong>g or given<br />

on its own, must be geared toward the Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Director’s priorities.<br />

He is concerned with sav<strong>in</strong>g time, generat<strong>in</strong>g money, and mak<strong>in</strong>g life<br />

easier and more effi cient. If you gear your presentation toward how he<br />

can become more successful, you’ll no doubt get his attention. Zero <strong>in</strong><br />

on the bottom l<strong>in</strong>e with quick benefi t statements.<br />

Because of their lack of time, Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Directors do not focus as much<br />

energy on contemplat<strong>in</strong>g and evaluat<strong>in</strong>g ideas. Th ey want you to do the<br />

analysis and lay it out for them to approve or disapprove. Dom<strong>in</strong>ant Directors<br />

like rapid, concise analyses of their needs and your solutions.<br />
