Section 3. PRESERVATION AND RUSTPROOFING MATERIALS 1. Compound, Silicone, Soft Film. MIL-C-2156. This compound is used as an inhibitor and lubricant for mating threaded or non-threaded surfaces of ferrous components. Also intended as a lubricant for rubber components such as O-rings and gaskets. For use under extreme conditions of service and storage, when freezing at -65 o F or oxidation and deterioration at 160 o F is not permissible, and where water insolubility and sealing properties are essential. Because of product variability it may have a tendency to leave gum deposits that may not be easily removed.
