MUSEUM OF ART BUDGET SUMMARY
Mission Statement
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s (LACMA) mission is to
serve the public through the collection, conservation,
exhibition, and interpretation of significant works of art from a
broad range of cultures and historical periods; and to translate
these collections into meaningful educational, aesthetic,
intellectual, and cultural experiences for the widest array of
audiences.
2011-12 Budget Message
The 2011-12 Recommended Budget reflects a net increase of
$269,000 due to an increase in the Consumer Price Index based
cost-of-living adjustment pursuant to the 1994 operating
agreement amended on May 20, 2008, partially offset by the
deletion of one-time carryover funding.

The Recommended Budget continues support for a full
exhibition schedule planned for 2011-12, including Tim Burton;
Gifts of the Sultan: The Arts of Giving at the Islamic Courts;
California Design, 1930 – 1965: Living in a Modern Way;
Contested Visions in the Spanish Colonial World; Children of the
Plumed Serpent: The Legacy of Quetzalcoatl in Ancient Mexico; In
Wonderland: The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artists in
Mexico and the United States; and Kienholz: Five Card Stud.
Permanent Collection installations will include Natural Wonder:
European Embroidery in the Age of Discovery; the Vernon
Collection; and Reigning Men: From Macaroni to Metrosexual.
LACMA will continue a cooperative venture with the City of
Los Angeles and private donors in preservation of the historic
Watts Towers.
In its fifth year, Art Programs with the Community will continue
to focus educational outreach to selected Los Angeles Unified
School Districts 4 and 7 schools. The program includes LACMA
On-Site in 2006 as a multi-year partnership providing art
programs and materials to schools, libraries, and community
organizations. The program also includes artist-led workshops
in classrooms, local libraries, and community centers;
curriculum materials; professional development for teachers;
and free youth memberships to LACMA.
