Arts Commission Laura Zucker, Executive Director Arts Commission Budget Summary ARTS COMMISSION BUDGET SUMMARY Mission Statement To foster excellence, diversity, vitality, understanding, and accessibility of the arts in the County of Los Angeles. The Arts Commission provides leadership in cultural services for the County, including information and resources for the community, artists, educators, arts organizations, and municipalities. 2011-12 Budget Message The 2011-12 Recommended Budget reflects a net County cost decrease of $997,000 primarily due to the deletion of one-time funding for the Organizational Grant Program, Arts Internship Program and the Holiday Celebration, partially offset by Board-approved increases in salaries and employee benefits. Critical/Strategic Planning Initiatives ■ Implement a number of new measures to address the fiscal challenges of the recession by developing new technical assistance services for constituents, including improving reporting instruments for the Organizational Grant Program to assist grantees with evaluating their programs while enabling the collection of data more relevant to the Board of Supervisors (Board). ■ Implement the Create/Cultivate Initiative utilizing grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Productivity Investment Fund that will enable arts organizations to increase funds from external sources to commission new art works. Improve the Project Coordination Committee component of the Civic Art process to address the unique parameters for each capital project that includes civic art and develop an evaluation process to solicit input and feedback on the civic art selection and project development process from each Project Coordination Committee.
