Output value of food crop is higher in the<br />
North and in Kono district than that of tree<br />
production. Productivity of food production<br />
(i.e. output per acre) is about the same in the<br />
Northern districts and in Kailahun, but only half<br />
that of in Kenema and Kono districts. However<br />
in Kailahun this situation is compensated by the<br />
fact that much higher output value is generated<br />
by tree cropping compared to all the other<br />
districts, which reflects great productivity in tree<br />
production system. On the other hand, tree crop<br />
production in Bombali and Tonkolili shows very<br />
low productivity of land use. This latter is mainly<br />
explained by the type of tree crop they produce,<br />
oil palm in the North and coffee/cocoa in the<br />
