Furthermore, on average in the Eastern<br />
districts, a farm household disposes of 13<br />
acres, and of 4.5 acres in the Northern districts<br />
(Figure 26 and Figure 27). This translates into<br />
an approximate availability of 1.1 acre per farm<br />
household member in the Eastern region and 0.4<br />
acre per farm household member in the Northern<br />
region. The lower disposable acreage in the latter<br />
compared to the previous region contributes to<br />
partly explain the highest propensity to search<br />
for off farming sources of livelihood in the North<br />
with respect to the East; as observed in the<br />
survey where highest importance was given to<br />
secondary activities and part time off-farm jobs<br />
in the North in comparison to the East. However,<br />
the importance of the cash crop may be in fact<br />
