household and hired labour separately.<br />
Figure 33 shows the availability of household<br />
labour and the use of household and hired labour<br />
on an average farm household. In the labour use<br />
all the labour force (man, women and children)<br />
are included (sum of the hours worked by each<br />
category). The Eastern district of Kono is the one<br />
with the highest use of household labour, which<br />
represents half of its yearly availability, and the<br />
lowest use of hired labour. In the rest of the<br />
districts the proportion of the use of household<br />
and hired labour are roughly the same, showing<br />
a slightly lower number for hired labour use than<br />
for own family labour. It can be seen that each<br />
district has a lot of available working hours left<br />
without its use for own farm production, which<br />
could be exploited further. However, there are<br />
peak periods when available household labour<br />
is not sufficient to cover labour needs, and it is<br />
necessary to hire labour, for example during the
