household heads. It appears that the STABEXfunded<br />
initiatives tended to target more female<br />
headed households compared to the targeting<br />
of non-supported initiatives, as well as farmers<br />
who had more years of formal education. The<br />
latter is particularly striking in the Northern<br />
districts where the average number of years<br />
of education among supported and nonsupported<br />
is almost double for the former (i.e.<br />
3 years for supported farmers versus 1.5 years<br />
for un-supported farmers).<br />
Figure 110 provides information on the<br />
degree of engagement on farming activities.<br />
In the case of non-supported farmers, a larger<br />
percentage declares to be involved in farming on<br />
a part – time basis; particularly in the Northern<br />
region with up to 20% of smallholders in the<br />
control group (that is, non-supported farm<br />
households) versus 10% of the group of farmers
