Amidol Black Developer<br />

Water at room temperature, 750.0 ml<br />

Sodium sulfi te, 24.5 g<br />

Citric acid, 0.6 g<br />

Amidol, 8.1 g<br />

Potassium bromide, 0.6 g<br />

*Potassium thiocyanate, 0.3 g<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter<br />

* Potassium thiocyanate is optional in this formula but recommended for truer black tones. If the<br />

potassium salt is not available, the sodium salt may be substituted.<br />

Use at full strength. Develop for 1½ to 4 minutes.<br />

FORMULA #106<br />

Amidol Paper Developer No. 1<br />

Sodium sulfi te, 100.0 g<br />

Amidol, 6.6 g<br />

Potassium bromide, 10.0 g<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter<br />

This developer may be used in dilutions ranging from undiluted to 1:15, depending on the<br />

contrast desired. Developing times are from 1½ to 6 minutes.<br />

NOTE: <strong>The</strong> sulfi te and bromide can be mixed as a stock solution and the amidol added just<br />

before use.<br />

FORMULA #107<br />

Below’s Amidol Paper Developer<br />

This formula is claimed to have better keeping qualities in solution than other amidol<br />

formulas.<br />

Metol, 1.0 g<br />

Sodium sulfi te, 30.0 g<br />

Amidol, 6.0 g<br />

Potassium bromide, 0.4 g<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter<br />

Dilute as needed to manipulate contrast. Develop for 2 to 4 minutes.
