<strong>The</strong> stock solution is to make 1.0 liter of concentrate.<br />

FILM: Dilute 1:3. If hardening is desired add 25.0 ml of the hardener to each liter of working<br />

solution. <strong>The</strong> hardener should be added slowly with stirring. Films should be fully fi xed in<br />

approximately 5 minutes.<br />

PAPER: Dilute 1:7. Prints will be fi xed in 3 minutes. Do not leave prints in this fi xer for more<br />

than 10 minutes.<br />

Acid Hardening Rapid Fixer<br />

(Donald B. Alnutt)<br />

Use this formula for fi lm or paper when hardening is desired to reduce fi xing times.<br />

Water at 125F/52C, 600.0 ml<br />

*Ammonium thiosulfate, 60% solution, 333.0 ml<br />

Sodium sulfi te, 15.0 g<br />

Acetic acid, 28% solution, 55.0 ml<br />

�Boric acid, granular, 7.5 g<br />

Potassium alum, 15.0 g<br />

Add water to make 1.0 liter<br />

* 200.0 grams of ammonium thiosulfate, crystalline can be used.<br />

�Dissolve the boric acid separately in a little hot water and add this last.<br />

FILM: Use undiluted. With a fresh bath, clearing time should be approximately 1 to 2 minutes.<br />

Film should be completely fi xed in 4 to 5 minutes. <strong>The</strong> bath can be used until clearing time<br />

exceeds 7 minutes.<br />

PAPER: Dilute 1:1. Immerse fi ber-base paper for 3 minutes, RC paper for 1½ minutes. If two<br />

baths are used, give 3-and-3, or 1½- and-1½ minutes in each bath for fi ber-base and RC paper,<br />

respectively.<br />

Rapid Thiocyanate Fixer<br />

Use this fi xer when fi xing has to be completed in a matter of seconds or when fi xing must<br />

take place in very low temperatures.<br />

Water at 125F/52C, 600.0 ml<br />

Potassium thiocyanate, 100.0 g<br />

Potassium alum, 50.0 g<br />

Add water to make 1.0 liter
