As with Kodak Rapid Selenium Toner, 1:9 will produce a color shift towards red while greater<br />

dilutions, 1:19 and higher, will intensify the black areas of the print without altering the color.<br />

<strong>The</strong> amount of dilution is paper dependent.<br />

Toning System<br />

This system of bleaches and toners can be mixed and matched to provide a variety of tones<br />

from purplish sepia to brilliant yellow (Chapter 10: DuPont 6-T Toning System).<br />

Varigam toning bleach 6B-1:<br />

Water, 750.0 ml<br />

Potassium ferricyanide, 22.0 g<br />

Potassium bromide, 25.0 g<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter<br />

Varigam toning bleach 6B-2:<br />

Water, 750.0 ml<br />

Potassium ferricyanide, 22.0 g<br />

Potassium iodide, 10.0 g<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter<br />

Varigam toning bleach 6B-3:<br />

Water, 750.0 ml<br />

Potassium ferricyanide, 22.0 g<br />

Sodium chloride, 35.0 g<br />

Nitric acid, 15.0 ml<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter<br />

Prints should be developed for 1½ minutes and fi xed in a non-hardening fi xing bath.<br />

Thoroughly wash the prints then bleach in one of the above bleaching baths for twice the<br />

time necessary to completely convert the black image. <strong>The</strong>n wash again until the image is<br />

free from the yellow bleach color.<br />

<strong>The</strong> bleached print is placed in one of the following toning baths and left until toning is<br />

complete.<br />

Varigam toner 6T-1:<br />

Water, 750.0 ml<br />

Thiourea (thiocarbamide), 3.0 g<br />

Sodium hydroxide, 6.0 g<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter
