Kodak D-76 � Thiosulfate<br />

Distilled water at 125F/52C, 500.0 ml<br />

Metol, 2.0 g<br />

Sodium sulfi te, 100.0 g<br />

Hydroquinone, 5.0 g<br />

Sodium carbonate, anhydrous, 60.0 g<br />

Sodium thiosulfate, pentahydrate, 16.0 g<br />

Potassium bromide, 4.0 g<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter<br />

Use a development time of 10 minutes at 68F/20C.<br />

<strong>The</strong> contrast of the positive cannot be appreciably changed by varying the development<br />

time. However, varying the amount of thiosulfate can be used to create a fi rst developer tailored<br />

for a specifi c emulsion. Increasing the thiosulfate reduces the maximum and minimum densities<br />

while decreasing the thiosulfate has the opposite effect.<br />

Potassium bichromate, anhydrous, 6.0 g<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter<br />

Sulfuric acid, concentrate, 12.0 ml<br />

Caution: Add the concentrated sulfuric acid slowly with constant stirring to the cold solution<br />

of the bichromate.<br />

Caution: Potassium bichromate is an allergen to some people and a suspected carcinogen.<br />

See precautions under potassium bichromate in Pharmacopoeia. If you are concerned about<br />

using bichromate use the permanganate bleach and metabisulfi te clearing bath, below.<br />

Bleach for 5 minutes at 68F/20C.<br />
